Your sailing trip was an unforgettable experience, but before you finally disembark from your charter yacht, the check-out is due. To ensure the handover process runs smoothly, good preparation is crucial. In this blog post, you'll learn how to optimally prepare your yacht for return, what happens during check-out, and how to save time and nerves.
Empty all cabinets and lockers and pack your personal belongings. Everything you need for the last day should be within reach. A careful review of the storage spaces prevents anything from being forgotten.
The yacht should be returned broom-clean. Wash used dishes, dispose of all trash, and empty the fridge. A clean return saves time and leaves a positive impression on the next crew.
You received the yacht fully fueled at check-in, so it must be returned the same way. To avoid long queues at the gas station, it is advisable to fill the tanks on the penultimate day. If you have a spare canister, you can also use it to top up the main tank on the return day.
If you notice any defects during your voyage, inform your charterer or the base immediately. Whether they affect safety or not – early reporting allows for quick repairs and avoids conflicts during check-out.
For a classic 7-day charter (Saturday to Saturday), it is customary to return the yacht to the marina by 6:00 PM at the latest on the evening before. Often, you can spend the night on board and disembark by 8:00 AM the next morning. Check the return regulations and possible options like late check-out or early check-in during check-in.
Together with a charter company employee, you check the yacht for any damage. The check-in protocol serves as a comparison. All points, from the condition of the sails to the electronics, are thoroughly checked.
An external diver checks the underwater area of the yacht, including the hull and drives. Damages are documented, usually through underwater photos.
After a successful technical inspection and a clean return, the deposited security deposit is released. Any damages or losses incurred are also settled here.
A well-organized check-out ensures you can end your sailing trip relaxed. By handing over the yacht clean and carefully, you make the process easier for yourself and the charterers.
