Istria

Istria

While it is still cool here in spring, summer is already setting in in Istria and northern Croatia. The sunny Mediterranean landscape is easy to reach by car for most German-speaking sailors. This and the good selection of charter yachts make a spontaneous trip possible like nowhere else. This is particularly popular when the weather forecast promises a good trip in the off-season.

Countless islands, waterfalls, good marinas and a variety of culinary delights make the central part of Croatia a charter favorite for many yachting holidaymakers. The diverse area is home to several national parks and is also considered to be the area with the most fish in the Mediterranean. In addition to the advantages for charter holidaymakers, various fun sports regattas are held here in the spring, where ambitious sailors get their money's worth.

South Dalmatia

The further south you go, the higher the mountains rise towards the sky on the coast. The so-called green islands such as Hvar, Brac and Korcula are impressive islands that offer both quiet and lively corners and are much larger than the Kornati islands further north. On land, you are literally catapulted back in time in cities such as Trogir, Split and Dubrovnik.

Sailing in Croatia

Croatia is one of the most popular destinations for yacht charter holidaymakers, particularly families and those who appreciate calmer waters. The country is known for its stunning coastline and idyllic islands, which provide the perfect backdrop for a relaxing sailing trip.

In the coastal regions of Croatia, you can generally expect mild winters and warm, dry summers. Winter is generally mild and rainy in these regions, while summer can be warm and sunny. Humidity is high in the summer months and thunderstorms can occur occasionally.

In terms of wind and waves, the coast of Croatia is characterized by two main winds: the northeast wind (Bora) and the southwest wind (Jugo). The Bora is a cold and dry wind that is common in the winter months and can cause strong gusts of wind. The Jugo is a moist and mild wind that is common in the summer months and can cause waves up to 2 meters high. The coastal regions of Croatia also occasionally experience the so-called "Maestral" winds, which usually occur in spring and autumn and provide pleasant sailing weather.

One of the most popular destinations for a yachting holiday in Croatia is Istria in the northwest of the country. This region is known for its beautiful beaches and picturesque towns such as Rovinj and Porec. From Istria, you can explore the Kvarner Bay, also known as the "Croatian Sea".

Central Dalmatia is another popular area for yacht charter holidaymakers in Croatia. Here you will find the well-known cities of Split and Dubrovnik, as well as numerous islands, including the island of Brač and the island of Hvar. The region is known for its rich history and culture, and offers many opportunities to discover and explore.

Southern Dalmatia offers yacht charter holidaymakers the chance to experience the fascinating Croatian culture first hand. The region is known for its historic towns and charming fishing villages, all of which are well worth a visit. Croatian cuisine is also highly recommended in Southern Dalmatia, with fresh seafood and local wines served in the region's restaurants. The islands and bays of the area are perfect for relaxing days on the water, and offer many opportunities for swimming, snorkeling and sunbathing. For more active holidaymakers, Southern Dalmatia also offers numerous opportunities for hiking and cycling along the coast.

Culinary-wise, Croatia is best known for its seafood, fish dishes and Mediterranean cuisine. Croatian cuisine is influenced by various cultures, including Italian, Austrian and Hungarian cuisine. Some of the most famous Croatian dishes are Dalmatinska Pasticada (a braised beef dish), Istrian Fuži (a type of pasta) and Peka (a braised meat and vegetable dish cooked under a bell of glowing coals).

Croatia is also known for its wine production, particularly its red wines from the Dalmatia region. Some of the most famous Croatian wines are Dingač and Plavac Mali from the Dalmatia region and Teran from the Istria region. Croatia is also known for its olive oil production, particularly olive oil from the Istria region.

If you want to rent a yacht or boat in Croatia, you can choose from several different types of boats. Sailboats and yachts are a good choice for those who want to enjoy the freedom and flexibility of choosing their own route and exploring the bays and harbors along the Croatian coast. Sailing yachts and sailing catamarans (also called sailing cats), on the other hand, are well suited for larger groups or families who need more space and comfort on board. Motor yachts offer the ultimate in luxury and are perfect for a romantic vacation for two or a relaxing trip with friends.

To avoid any nasty surprises on your vacation, you should make sure you choose an experienced and reputable charter company. It is advisable to book in advance so that you get the boat you want at the time you want.
