Ümit grew up in an unusual family: His father, a Turkish guest worker in Germany, was an avid surfer. This was anything but ordinary in the late 1970s. A surfboard on the roof of a guest worker's car was a rare sight – a symbol of the courage to be different and an unbridled passion.
This love for the water also shaped Ümit. Even as a child, he was fascinated by the sea and water sports. Nevertheless, he initially followed the classic path: training as a bank clerk. He worked in a bank branch, wore a suit and tie, and took care of customers' finances. But deep down, he knew he wanted more – to discover the world and live his true passion.
The moment Ümit decided to pursue his true heart's desires was not easy for him. He was aware that he would initially disappoint his parents. But he followed his heart and moved to South Africa. There, he learned to stand on his own two feet and delved even deeper into the world of water sports. Windsurfing, surfing, living in freedom – all of this showed him what it means to follow your passion and find your own destiny.
Initially, sailing was not for Ümit. When a friend invited him on a sailing trip, he hesitated – "This will surely be boring," he thought. But by the third day on deck, he felt something that touched him deeply: inner peace.
Sailing combined everything he loved – the magic of the sea, action, and freedom – with a new dimension: relaxation and reflection. During this journey, Ümit discovered a new passion that would later significantly influence his life and career.
The Founding of Charterbar Yachting
Back on land, Ümit knew he wanted to build something of his own. He founded Charterbar Yachting, a yacht charter agency that offers exactly what he had always sought: individual care, inspiring content, and unique experiences.
