A sailing trip through the Dalmatian archipelago is one of the most beautiful ways to discover Croatia from the water. If you have a week and start in Split or Trogir, you'll enjoy a perfect mix of historic port towns, turquoise bays and laid-back island villages.

In this suggested itinerary we present a popular 7-day route through Central Dalmatia, ideal for both sailing beginners and experienced crews. The route takes you across the islands of Brač, Hvar, Vis and Šolta and offers short legs, dreamy swimming spots and lively harbor towns.

The perfect sailing route for a one-week yacht charter from Split or Trogir

The Dalmatian coast is one of Europe's most popular sailing areas. Short distances between the islands, reliable winds and many sheltered harbors make the region ideal for a one-week cruise.

These are the highlights you can look forward to on a one-week yacht charter from Split or Trogir:

  • Split / Trogir
  • Milna (island of Brač)
  • Stari Grad or Vrboska (island of Hvar)
  • Hvar Town or Palmižana
  • Vis
  • Komiža
  • Maslinica (island of Šolta)
  • Return to Split / Trogir

The daily legs are mostly between 10 and 25 nautical miles, leaving plenty of time for swimming, exploring and relaxing.

Day 1: Start in Split or Trogir – Sail to Milna (Brač)

Your sailing holiday starts in one of the large marinas around Split or Trogir. After check-in and a short briefing it's time to cast off!

The first destination is Milna on the island of Brač. This charming town lies in a sheltered bay and is known for its tranquil atmosphere and a beautiful waterfront promenade.

Highlights:

Cozy restaurants right by the water
A safe marina for the first night
Perfect swimming spots around the bay

Day 2: From Brač to Hvar – Stari Grad or Vrboska

On the second day you sail on to the island of Hvar, one of the best-known destinations on the Croatian Adriatic. Two places are particularly popular:

Stari Grad
One of the oldest towns in Croatia
Narrow lanes and a historic old town
Relaxed atmosphere

Vrboska
Also called “Little Venice of Hvar”
Small bridges and a quiet harbor
Perfect for a relaxed evening

Day 3: Hvar Town or Palmižana

Today you can choose between two completely different experiences:

Hvar Town

The island's lively hotspot with historic fortresses
Trendy bars and restaurants
An impressive old town

Palmižana (Pakleni Islands)
If you prefer it quiet, sail into the bay of Palmižana. The island is part of the Pakleni Islands and offers crystal-clear water and Mediterranean nature.

Day 4: Onward to the island of Vis

The island of Vis was a military restricted area for a long time and has therefore remained comparatively unspoiled to this day. Here you can expect:

Charming harbor towns
Crystal-clear water
Relaxed atmosphere away from the big tourist crowds

The town of Vis itself offers numerous restaurants, small bars and beautiful coastal walks.

Day 5: Komiža, the authentic fishing village

A real highlight of the route is Komiža on the west side of Vis. This small harbor town is considered one of the most authentic places in all of Dalmatia. Particularly recommended:

Fresh fish in traditional konobas
Strolls through the narrow lanes
Trips to the famous Blue Cave on Biševo

Along the way you can also discover dreamy swimming bays such as Stiniva or Budikovac.

Day 6: Island of Šolta – Maslinica or Šešula Bay

Before heading back to the mainland, the route takes you to the island of Šolta. The small town of Maslinica is particularly popular with sailors. Look forward to:

A charming marina
Historic stone houses
Spectacular sunsets

Alternatively, you can anchor in the nearby Šešula Bay and enjoy a relaxing evening in one of the konobas.

Day 7: Return to Split or Trogir

On the last day you sail back to your home port. On the way there are plenty of opportunities for one last swim stop in one of the many bays along the coast. Back in the marina you can round off the evening perfectly, for example with a final dinner in the old town of Split or Trogir.
